The Role of Beads, Past to Present
Beads are objects that are often found in human life. Findings of beads are found all over the world, including Indonesia. Many beads are found in archaeological research because of the relatively strong durability of these objects. Objects made of stone or glass are not easily decomposed by nature. Beads are small granular objects from seeds, eggshells, merjan, shells, bones, ivory, glass, metal or rock that are given holes and strung into jewelry (Permana, 2016: 206).

These small beads have a variety of different types and functions because beads have value in their use. Beads have a beauty or artistic value because they are often used as jewelry, which in turn signifies the social strata of an individual. Beads in certain communities are considered to have magical (sacred) value to repel reinforcements or as amulets (amulets), and are often used in traditional ceremonial processions. In addition, beads are unique objects, they can be made from simple materials such as strung shells or with a complicated process. This is because humans are familiar with how to control fire (pyrotechnology) so that they can produce beads made from glass or metal with better quality.
